Story & Language Lab

There's a better way to learn Spanish.

Story & Language Lab

Story and Language Lab is a online community & a hub for comprehensible input designed to unlock your potential in Spanish.

Our Philosophy

We learn when we care.

We thrive when we talk about what matters to us. Not to schoolbook characters or teachers.

With tailored-made texts paired with smart writing tasks and valuable feedback, you’ll find the right words to tell your story in Spanish.

We learn 7x more with stories.

Stories are in our DNA, and learning with stories allows us to tap into a deeper potential in our memory.

At Story and Language Lab, we read, tell and share stories, creating an environment in which you will absorb and use Spanish naturally and with ease.

We learn when we see progress.

Seeing progress gets us going.

We accelerate your progress by focusing on what matters to you and providing accountability and feedback – so with every new week, you don’t only elevate your Spanish to the next level, but also your confidence in your ability.

We learn when we feel good.

When we feel energized, we learn better.

Unlike in language courses that are often in the evening when we’re drained by the day, Story and Language Lab gives you the freedom to study when you feel like it.

Is this you?

You already have an upper beginner/ intermediate level in Spanish and would like to achieve this:

Have better conversations.

Expressing yourself more precisely, confidently and clearly across various topics. Having a broad vocabulary, skillfully using grammar and having that natural feel & flow.

Understand more and react faster.

Naturally understanding and reacting to what others say without that gap to translate and find the right words.

Master different situations.

Being equipped with the means to master various situations you might encounter in your job, personal life or on travels.

But you’re struggling with this:

You've completed a free guided course – but now?

You’ve completed a free guided course with some basic Spanish. Now, beginner material is too easy for you, but native input is too hard.

Textbooks & courses don't cover what matters to YOU.

Textbooks teach you to talk about rugby championships or how Juan forgot his T-shirt on a camping trip – but that doesn’t help you talk about what matters to YOU. About YOUR favorite childhood vacation. About why YOU took that life decision. About how YOU finally held your degree after years of doubting yourself.

You're lacking guidance & feedback.

You decided self-studying Spanish, but you have no reference whatsoever on whether you’re advancing and how far you still have to go.

Classes take place when you're tired.

Language courses take place in the evening, when all your energy is used up. You’d rather decide yourself when to study.

Who will guide you?

I'm Annika, a certified translator and interpreter.

Here's what drives me.

Between and after my job trainings, I was lucky enough to spend one year in a fishing village Ecuador and another one in Uruguay

These two stays showed me the different linguistic and cultural facets of South America – but more importantly, they  left me with a lot of questions about the world and myself, igniting a passion for some nice, deep conversations.

After that, I spent a longer period of time in Serbia, with the intention of learning Serbian as fast as possible. Before that, I firmly believed that learning a new language will take years – especially a Slavic one. So I did a lot of experimenting and, to my surprise, of all my languages, Serbian became the one that I learned by far the fastest.

As I went on studying Serbian and later also Turkish, I began delving deeper in different language learning methods, and in 2022, I eventually writing about language learning on LinkedIn site and my blog.

There’s a lot to language learning, but for me, the core pillars are: Relevancy, fun, feedback, and loooots of context.

Et voilà: That’s how the idea of Story and Language Lab was born.
